let there be light

{image via we heart it}

We have been without power for just over 24 hours. Why you ask? Because my darling husband forgot to pay our electricity bill. The poor man just totally forgot {in his defense, he's been crazy busy at work lately}... We quickly corrected the mistake, but it took another 12 hours for them to come turn our power back on. Who is in charge of paying bills in your household? Kiwi and I obviously need to work on our system.

*Kiwi and I decided I would make a terrible pioneer woman. It's so good to have my hair dryer back.

chic swimsuits

Swimsuit season is in full swing here in Arizona... When I saw this pretty little roundup of suits from Anthropologie my heart literally skipped a beat. I'm torn between the polka dot maillot and the sassy little black number.

*What are your thoughts on the high waisted look? I know it's all the rage but I just don't know if I can pull it off.

i heart indian weddings

{here comes the bride}

Kiwi and I had such a good time at the wedding. The bride's sari was absolutely breathtaking. I've never seen such beautiful bead work. One of the wedding traditions is for the bride's family to try and steal the groom's shoes. I have no idea why, but it sure was fun! My favorite part of the night was when all the kids did a fully choreographed dance for the newlyweds. The colors, the music, the food...it was in a word, awesome.

*I realize I've been pretty heavy on the wedding related posts lately. It almost makes me miss the days of planning our wedding... almost. Back to regularly scheduled programming on Monday.

wedding video envy

Julie + Mark's Washington DC Wedding from Joshua Brown Photography on Vimeo.

This might be the sweetest little wedding video I've ever seen. It just tugs at my heartstrings... I seriously love it. I find the music especially enchanting. After attending a wedding on Saturday {which I will post photos of later this week} it got me wondering what on earth I did with our wedding footage. After I dug it out of the storage closet I realized we really need to have it edited into something more manageable and meaningful than the three hours of film we are currently working our way through.

*All you married ladies out there... What did you do with your wedding footage?

it's wedding season!

A close friend of Kiwi's is getting married on Saturday and I am so excited for the bride and groom. It's going to be a multicultural, Indian and Christian ceremony and I just know it will be beautiful... I went to the shower a few weeks ago and loved seeing all the Indian women in their gorgeous saris and jewels. I can't wait to eat delicious Indian food and show off my Bollywood dance moves! I heart weddings.

*Now I just have to figure out what I'm going to wear...

50 and fabulous

Happy birthday Mom. You are the most beautiful, independent and wonderful woman I know. 50 has never looked so fabulous.

*We are taking her to dinner here... but, shhhh it's a surprise!

the spending hiatus: we made it!

{image found here}

The spending hiatus is finally finished! I'm not going to lie, the temptation to spend was everywhere. What I realized was, the things I enjoy and love the most are not things at all but experiences. Kiwi and I tried new restaurants and read books in bed on Sunday mornings. I took an amazing trip with my girlfriends and made time to try some new recipes.... I even baked cookies!

On the material side of things, I discovered that I tend to wear a few select pieces over and over again. These pieces are generally items that I invested a little more money in, but I'm still wearing two, three and even five years later. In the future, I hope to think a bit more about my purchases and the quality of the items... and not just if it was a good deal.

*So how did you do? Any non-spending revelations, ideas, comments?

**I think the spending hiatus may have officially cured me of my longtime love affair with Target. More on that later.
