use your good dishes

{image found here}

One of my favorite things about summer break is that I get to spend more time with my family and friends. I love driving up to my grandma's house to have coffee and flip through all her old photo albums. Even if it's just an impromptu visit, my grandma always brings out the Haviland teacups and saucers. The delicate china has been in my family for years... and it only gets more beautiful with time. It makes the mundane feel like a special treat. My grandmother's manifesto is, "life is too short, always use your good dishes." I couldn't agree with her more.

*For more great manifestos check out Joslyn's list over at Simple Lovely. My grandmother would be proud.

  1. I like that manifesto! Why wait and use china for special times only...every day is special :)

  6. I definitely agree... good dishes should not be kept in storage or just for display. They have to be used especially with special people in your lives. xoxo

  7. my mom does the same! she has a thrifted collection of bone china teachups, and she always lets guests choose their favorite to sip tea from.

  8. ...i don't know what teachups are, but i imagine they're like pull-ups, only involve chalk erasers and desks.

  12. I love the mix and match floral and solid colors. And yes, you're so right about the dress on the left - the one on the right would be way too short (my mom would definitely stop me and make me change...even though I'm twenty), but I liked it too much to leave it out. :)

  21. LOVE THIS! My grandma just gave me 5 sets of her teacups and saucers and I can't even tell you how much I'm looking forward to tea parties with my daughter with them!! I feel like I'm holding a little piece of history some how when I look at them. The challenge here is to preserve them any advice on how to teach a 3 year old how to NOT break china is completely welcomed.
