One of my favorite things about summer break is that I get to spend more time with my family and friends. I love driving up to my grandma's house to have coffee and flip through all her old photo albums. Even if it's just an impromptu visit, my grandma always brings out the Haviland teacups and saucers. The delicate china has been in my family for years... and it only gets more beautiful with time. It makes the mundane feel like a special treat. My grandmother's manifesto is, "life is too short, always use your good dishes." I couldn't agree with her more.
*For more great manifestos check out Joslyn's list over at Simple Lovely. My grandmother would be proud.
I like that manifesto! Why wait and use china for special times only...every day is special :)
ReplyDeleteI totally agree! I can't wait to use my Kate Spade China EVERYDAY once we move into our new house (its sadly been in storage for 2 years after my shower)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that concept! good point.
ReplyDeleteagreed -- nice things are meant to be enjoyed. happy summer to you!
ReplyDeleteThat cup in the forefront is so pretty. PS I'm going to start recording 9 by Design and see what all the excitement is about (;
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree... good dishes should not be kept in storage or just for display. They have to be used especially with special people in your lives. xoxo
ReplyDeletemy mom does the same! she has a thrifted collection of bone china teachups, and she always lets guests choose their favorite to sip tea from.
ReplyDelete...i don't know what teachups are, but i imagine they're like pull-ups, only involve chalk erasers and desks.
ReplyDeleteThat is so nice. :) Beautiful things should be used. They make a day special and great things are getting more beautiful and special when you use them. Great post!!
ReplyDeleteSo true, I bet most people never even use the good dishes. Great blog doll ;) xoxo
ReplyDeleteI love this!!! Life is too short and I always use my good dishes. This post is incredible!! xo
ReplyDeleteWords to live by for sure!
ReplyDeleteI love the mix and match floral and solid colors. And yes, you're so right about the dress on the left - the one on the right would be way too short (my mom would definitely stop me and make me change...even though I'm twenty), but I liked it too much to leave it out. :)
ReplyDeleteCouldn't agree more. The time to enjoy everything is now- who knows what'll happen tomorrow?
ReplyDeleteLove this! She is so right about not waiting for special times - make every time special!
ReplyDeletetime has taught me the truth in your grandmothers adage. i used to save things. to savor them TOO much. keep them TOO close. now i use my favorite thiings. my best things.
ReplyDeletenothing does you any good on a shelf :)

ReplyDeleteSo true! I love those manifestos and I can tell your grandmother is an awesome lady. Now, off to buy some nice dishes.
ReplyDeletei love that! life is way too short. i miss my grandmother.. and what a pretty teacup picture!
ReplyDeleteLOVE THIS! My grandma just gave me 5 sets of her teacups and saucers and I can't even tell you how much I'm looking forward to tea parties with my daughter with them!! I feel like I'm holding a little piece of history some how when I look at them. The challenge here is to preserve them any advice on how to teach a 3 year old how to NOT break china is completely welcomed.
