On Monday night I made spaghetti alla carbonara for the first time ever. I used this recipe from {the now defunct} Gourmet and it couldn't have been easier... Okay full confession, I used bacon instead of pancetta and dried parmesan instead of fresh. Sometimes you have to make due with what you've got! It was still absolutely delicious and received rave reviews from my in-house food critic, Kiwi.
*I have been pretty lapse in the dinner cooking department... How do you guys plan your meals during the week? I'm usually fresh out of ideas by Wednesday.
By far one of my favorite dishes oh and I love kiwi too!!! Glad you stopped by Coeur de La!! Love your sweet blog!! XO
ReplyDeletesmitten. kitchen. <3
ReplyDeletehave you tried vodka penne? it's probably my favorite pasta to make. and the vodka is sorta optional (if, like us, booze doesn't stay long in your house)
i pick 5 recipes at the beginning of the week by searching recipe sites with keywords of stuff i have in the house. and then i go grocery shopping for the exotic things i don't have. (was that an overly nerdy answer to your question...?)
i like to eat so much that cooking is rarely a chore.
That sounds so good.
ReplyDeleteI am pretty unoriginal when it comes to cooking. We both work - a lot - so we like things that are easy. We rotate between - tacos, pasta, steak & veg, risotto, Chicken stir fry and anything that will go in a slow cooker.
I've always wanted to try Pasta Carbonara but have been too intimated to try it. Maybe I will soon! Dinner ideas? I cook one week. Take a week off. And so it goes. I know I need to do better! But Mexican is always a success over here.
ReplyDeleteYum! That looks so good! I plan my meals by using a few different foodie websites like taste.com.au and then go to the farmers' market to get everything I need.
ReplyDeleteMmmm, I love a fresh, simple pasta!
ReplyDeleteI've been really neglectful of the kitchen lately. Sometimes because I work late, other times because I'm too tired/lazy. Soups are always the best way to get me back into the groove :)
I keep a rotating menu, a list of everything I know how to cook, and then I pick five things during the weekend to make for the week. Planning ahead like that keeps me from getting lazy on Wednesday (haha) and if I write it all down, that keeps me from making the same five things every week.
ReplyDeleteThis looks delicious. I should add it to the list!
it looks delish! I will definitely try it out... I'm on the road right now and so far from routine. But the daily figuring out of 'what's for dinner?' always get me tired ;)
ReplyDeleteI have to sit down and do it Saturday or it doesn't get done....which is silly, because things are so much more relaxed when I have a plan!
ReplyDeleteare you really going to thailand in june?! oh my, i just loved my time in thailand! i spent a summer teaching english in a youth hostel, and enjoyed every minute of it (minus the roosters and early mornings..).
ReplyDeleteOoh that looks so good.
ReplyDeleteI have a set schedule for meals, done weekly, I just don't have the time anymore plus it saves money!
I may have to add this to the list next week! :)
Oh wow! How yummy!! I love this recipe and I must try it ;) I follow you, your blog is so lovely!
ReplyDeleteThe noodles look delicious! Thanks for the comment (;
